osCMax releases v2.0 RC4 - it’s like a FREE CRE 6.2 B2B!
“osCMax 2.0 RC4 has been released and is available for download from the osCMax project page: http://www.oscmax.com/project/osCMax
For a complete rundown of all the changes in this release, see the post here”
osCMax says:
“Almost every aspect of osCMax has been updated in this release. All mods have been improved and updated, and the core code has been updated to match osCommerce 2.2RC2a. The changes are extensive, so I do not recommend simply overwriting your existing RC3x store with the new code. I recommend doing a new separate installation and migrating to it.
RC4 will be in release for two weeks. If no major issues are found in that time, it will be certified as the final release of v2.0 and we will then move forward, planning the point releases and adding new improvements.
Also to follow will be an update package with the changed files from RC3.0.3, and a SQL file to manually update the database and import the new records in RC4.
This release is fully mysql 5, php 5, and register_globals off compatible.”

I took a quick look at the admin area. This looks a lot like the CRE 6.2 B2B admin. A lot of the things are there, even Customer Groups. Customer Groups used to be the #1 feature that differentiated CRE B2B from CRE PRO and CRE Standard and CRE Loaded used to charge $350 for CRE B2B.
These days, it goes for a whooping $595.

Customer Groups is actually what made the CREloaded B2B version. B2B stands for Business to Business and customer groups gives you the ability to create wholesale groups and dealer groups and give these entities different product pricing. By selling to a dealership at a lower cost, you are basically engaging in Business to Business sales, that’s why the name, CRE B2B.
CRE 6.3 is simply not enough bang for the buck at this point. It’s unnecessarily over cluttered, as Chainreaction is loosing their vision. But that’s a whole new post …
